The Q1 2026 Newsletter highlights key milestones and strategic engagements undertaken by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) to strengthen Uganda’s media sector following the election period. The quarter focused on reinforcing industry stability, advocating for fair regulatory and financial frameworks, and supporting members in navigating emerging legal and technical requirements.

Notably, NAB has been actively engaged in discussions around the new Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, ensuring that compliance remains practical and affordable for broadcasters. The Secretariat is also negotiating improved licensing frameworks with collecting societies, while securing access to affordable local content through partnerships such as Pearlwood.

In addition, NAB continues to champion critical financial and tax reforms with government, including proposals to improve cash flow management for broadcasters and ensure dedicated media funding. Engagement with regulators like UCC has also remained a priority, particularly around new technical compliance guidelines.

Looking ahead, NAB is focused on expanding capacity-building initiatives, enhancing regulatory collaboration, and providing direct support to members on compliance and operational challenges.
